Managing Editor

Job Responsibilities: SourceLab’s Managing Editor will set the agenda and run the biweekly meetings of SourceLab and the triennial Advisory Board meetings. On the Editorial Board, the Managing Editor will oversee the peer-review process (corresponding with peer-reviewers as needed), copy-edit all editions in progress, in collaboration with the Editorial Assistant and the Project Manager, and oversee the final publication of editions through IOPN. The Managing Editor will also spearhead SourceLab’s event planning and grant applications while planning for SourceLab’s future.

Prerequisites: The ideal Managing Editor candidate will have advanced graduate training in History, knowledge of SourceLab publishing practices and principles, and familiarity with the theory and practice of documentary editing. The candidate must also have previous experience working in Scalar and other digital publishing platforms, and will ideally have previous training as a copyeditor.

Editorial Assistant

Job Responsibilities: The Editorial Assistant’s primary responsibility would be to assist the SourceLab Editorial Board (consisting of students, faculty, and staff) with the publication of its peer-reviewed documentary edition series, SourceLab.  Job tasks would include: copyediting new documentary editions; assisting with project management on ongoing editorial projects; attending Editorial Board meetings (twice monthly) and preparing and archiving minutes; managing correspondence with clients, authors, and reviewers; and assisting with SourceLab’s public events series, the SourceLab Forum.  This position would be good for anyone considering a career in digital publishing, communications, or scholarship.  This position requires a weekly 3-5 hour commitment at $15 / an hour.
